I bought this radio on Ebay last year and the seller had no clue about it.
I've re-capped it and it plays "oh-so-nicely" now.
Actually I really love this set.
I is only a standard AA5 tube line-up but I love it because, I has a very nice sound and for some reason it has great sensitivity and selectivity as well.
The tuner dial moves so smoothly and the number of knob turns to pointer turns ratio seems ideal.
The thing is I have never been able to ID this radio.
There is no plate on the chassis or anything.
I just saw another similar radio on Ebay with the Exact same dial face with the little musical notes in the center. That radio is in fact a Climax Emerald.
I am not so sure about this one though because the dial face indicates both AM and SW... but the chassis is only AM broadcast.
Note also that a "third" possible knob hole in the center below the dial has been replaced with a metal snap-in blank.
Also a separate hole on the right side has a blank over it.
I DID see on the bottom of the wood case it has a large number stamped into the wood : "CR-699"
I was wondering if that meant Climax Radio per chance?
In any case do any of you have a clue about it?
Thanks guys...
I was looking in my Mallory Radio Service Encyclopedia 1948 6th edition..at all the radios ever made by Climax Radio up until 1948 when the book was printed and none ever had a 12volt tube in them.
So maybe that will rule out Climax unless this was made after 1948.
