Radio Shack AM FM antenna

I tried this unit on the input for a crystal radio. I hooked it up in series and then one side to antenna input of the Xtal and the other side to the ground side of the Xtal. Neither seemed to make a difference. Any suggestions before I take the unit back? Thank you.

If that unit is the unit that somewhat resembles the profile of a portable, circular CD player balance on its side

....as:

If it is this unit , its circuit design innards definitely seem to be orientd towards the FM aspect, with any adjunct AM signal creeping thru, a surprise asset.

I just don't think that you are going to get what you are really desiring without a long outside antenna wire and a good ground. And since you are receiving and not xmitting, I found out as a 10 year old that I could get by with the plentiful supply of #30 wire from an old spkr field coil, (until the first crows lit upon it). Then I upgraded to common doorbell wire for yeeeeaaarrrs. Of course, sometimes I used phone lines, when not at home.
