Philco Model 17 - Mystery?
9/29/2007 3:07:21 PMJim Price
I have a console that's labeled Model 17 Code 125 - Part Number 39-5962. This is not the Model 17 from the early 30's as it has a 5 tube chasis (6A7, 78, 75, 84, 41), not the 11 tube chasis of the early 30's model. I've seen on the web similar a chasis in a table model. There's a rectangular dial above 3 knobs and 6 push buttons below that. Does anyone know anything about this radio? So far everyone I've contacted or has seen the radio had never seen it before.

Thanks

You most likely have a chassis from a different cabinet? Check out Model 39-25 or 39-17. Using an 84 for rectifier was common for Philco in 1939.

Thanks Norman, I found one that looks just like mine (I couldn't tell if the pushbuttons were there) on philcoradio.com labeled as a 38-17F. Do you have any idea what it might be worth if restored?

Thanks Again,

Jim

Philco 39-17F is shown in Collectors Guide to Antique Radios as being worth $120-$150.

This doesn't mean it can be sold at that price. They are really worth what a person is willing to spend. Garage sales, not much, antique stores high.
