Delco 983875 Capacitor cross reference please
9/1/2007 10:10:04 PMDave Froehlich
Hello All,
There are some odd capacitors on the PC board. They have a Delco part number on them but no value. This board resembles ones used in later models of Delco radios.

Here are the part numbers in question:

7292490, 7295246, and 7296634

What are the values of these capacitors. It appears that someone put a board from a later model in this radio. The PC board has the number D6C633. Other boards used in that model have no number on them.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Your right, PC board number D6C633 is from the 1966 Delco AM-Manual tune and Push-Button radio line. Buick, Chevrolet, Olds, Pontiac, and possibly Studebaker and others used that basic board. Your radio, 983875, is a 1963 Pontiac AM-Push-Button model, and the original PC board in that model (and other similar radios) was M2L043.

However, I can only identify one of your capacitors. 7295246 is a .0047 at 75 volts. If that replacement board was ordered from Delco Parts , there may be several part numbers that will not show up in normal parts lists.

The RF amp transistor on that board is DS-51 (DS-25) PNP- Germanium. Crosses to NTE 160 (NTE 126).

Meade,
If you have the service data from that 1966 model, we could probably figure out the values of the capacitors in question. I can get a picture of the component side of the pc board and put the link to it here.

Thanks,

Dave

I see no other caps on that PCB that would be of great consequence, since this is SS circuitry and paper capacitors are not of such concern such as one would experience in tube circuitry operating at MUCH higher voltages. Only seven of those units are seen on the PCB with the sole exception of the critical "olde" electrolytics as shown on shown red mark-ups of C3 and C2. Along with the sections that are in a separate canned unit
If they are in black hard plastic housings, I would suspect them to be NASHVILLE branded units with their stamped on EIA identifier # of 1068...really very-very suspect units at that age of units.
Unless, possibly, more of that brand were used in Fords.

That, additionally along with your green marked very suspect olde PNP "geranium-mum" transistor being used in the RF amplifier slot.
