Sentinel Model 284 catalin radio

Greetings from Australia.
I have just received a Sentinel 284 (possibly 284 NI) butterscotch catalin radio from the states. The chassis is mounted upside down on the case rails (it is a very tight fit).I would like to remove the chassis to repair a crack, but cannot find retaining screws or clips.I fear that someone at some stage may have glued the chassis to the rails.
Can anybody please help.
Kind Regards

I had one like that also. Very tight in the case. I decided to get the chassis out but have forgotten where the screws are/were; perhaps in the back horizontal to the case. When I did get the chassis out (I used WD 40 to oil the sides) I used a sander to grind down the chassis sides to get it back into the case. I took about 1/8 inch off each side. It slipped back in the case and solved the tight case problem. Those catalin case shrunk over the years and that might have caused the crack with the pressure from the metal chassis. Good luck.

Del.
Thankyou for the follow up I appreciate it.
I think you may be right about the catalin shrinking. I will keep looking for the screws. Having had a good look at the radio, their doesnt seem to be any glue on the rails. When I do eventually get the chassis out I definetly will take your advice and grind down the sides to allow an easier fit.
We are moving into our spring with temperatures of 25 Deg. celsius here in Australia.
Thankyou once again for your help.

The screws that hold the chassis in place usually were on the bottom of most radios. I do not recall where they are on the Sentinel as I sold it. They may be inside, on the sides. I recall that I had to use a small hammer to hit the knobs in the front to get the chassis out. Used a bit of oil also on the sides of the chassis inside; but soap would have been better. Good luck.

Del,
with a great sigh of relief the chassis is out of the case.Followed your instructions.
Interesting to note that the chassis and the case rails in the horizontal are tappered in the shape of a wedge and when the case shrinks it locks the chassis in.
Retaining screws are at the rear end of the rails but in my case had previously been stripped out from shrinkage.
I have also ground the metal chassis edges and it now slides in and fits as it should.
Many thanks again for your help.

Glad to help out. I had fun with mine also. Mine had the wavy grill and was butterscotch. It was sold to a fellow in London some years ago.
