Have a set marked chassis 142. This is not the model number and does not appear in my rider index. Does anyone out there what model this would cross to? This is a 7 tube AC operated receiver and the chassis number is riveted to the rear apron so I am sure it is valid.
Thanks in advance.

There is a model 142 listed on this site and a model 62-142 listed on Beitman's. These might help.

Dr. T,
Can you post the tube line up? That will help with locating the schematic.

There is a 7 tube chassis with a 14-142ES number:

If that doesn't match your chassis, post the tube line up and we might match it with something.

Dr. T,

Some of the Air Castle were made by Montgomery-Ward. There is a 7 tube AC set with a common chassis for models 62-123, 62-131, 62-133, 62-142, 62-144 and 62-152. Hope this helps.

Montgomery-Ward never made radios, Air Castle was their store brand name for the radios they sold through their retail outlets and catalogues. Just like Silvertone for Sears and Coronado for Gambles. These radios were made by many manufacturers under contract. It sometimes takes quite a bit of detective work to trace down the schematic and/or the manufacturer if the original labels are missing or the radio has an obscure name. I have about half a dozen that I have never been able to positivly identify-part of the fun of this hobby.

Gentlemen:Your aid has led me to Rider Vol 10 and a
Chassis 14-112S. This is very close and I can work from it. I have a fairly complete service library and nowhere did a Chassis 142 appear. I usually have more trouble with Sears diagrams but this Aircastle was confusing. Someone had also inserted 2 incorrect tubes and exchanged 2 others which makes everything fun.
Thank you all for your assistance in this 100+ degree weather. Tom.

Hi Jon,
Aircastle was the brand name for radios sold from the Speigel Catalog. Airline was sold be Mongomery Ward.
I had an Aircastle a while ago. I never found its model number either. It too had a chassis number that crossed to nothing. Although all came out well, it is much better to have the scheamtic.

Best Regards,

Bill Grimm

Bill,
You are right, I got my "Airs" mixed up. Just finished a nice little Airline 62-256 and am getting ready to start on an Air King that I have yet to i.d. and was up too late. I have heard mentioned that there are books that list tube line ups that are cross referenced to manufacturers. What are they called and are they available? My mystery pile is getting bigger.
Thanks,Jon.
