Need help putting a Grunding radio back together
6/16/2007 3:03:48 PMDave Froehlich
Hello All.
I restored two Grundig radios for someone. The person initially took the chassis out of the cabinet. Now that I finished the restoration, he suddenly forgot how they go together. Now he expects me to put everything back together. I never saw them together so I have no idea how everything goes back.
This involves mostly mounting the tweeters on the sides of the cabinet. There are two large pieces in the shape of flags. There are four short brackets. There is also a short piece of wood attached to each tweeter. I can line up the tweeter on the top of the grill but what screws into the bottom. The tweeter doesn't reach that far down. None of the holes in the brackets line up with any screw holes and neither do the holes in the flag shaped pieces. How all does this screw into the main speaker baffle on the sides? It's like a big puzzle. It's also extremely frustrating trying to figure it out.
If someone had some insturctions on how to remove these items from the cabinet or a picture of all the steps it would help.

Thanks,

Dave

Hmmm......I think the first thing our Grundig guys are going to ne4ed is the model numbers. Then maybe someone has an identical model they can photograph.

Dennis,
I have discussed this radio in another thread, It says 1099 on the grill in front.
There are two of them. But both have the tweeters that go in the same way. One has a wooden cabinet and one has a plastic cabinet. The other one says 1034 on it but that looks like part of the serial number. I see no other model numbers on the radios.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave,
This is a Grundig 1099. Is this like your radio ?
I am sceptical that yours is a 1099 because you mentioned rwo tweeters. The 1099 has only one tweeter (on the front panel) but has "sound ports" on each end of the cabinet.

Dennis,
Those side panels have very thin speakers attached to them. How are they attached? That's what I need to find out. The back view of the radio sent me doesn't show the sides. It does show another speaker next to the main speaker on the front. In the one I'm workng on someone nailed a board where that second speaker is supposed to be. The board looked odd. Now I know why the board is there. To cover the hole for a missing speaker.

Thanks,

Dave

Dennis,
I forgot to say that this is exactly the radio I'm working on.
The other radio has a bakelite cabinet.

Dave,
after re-reading your post I'm thinking that maybe this IS like your radio. I've emailed an interior view to you.

Dennis
