Arvin 152T with Tinny Sound
6/11/2007 9:12:36 PMRobert H
Hello - I have recently recapped an Arvin 152T (a 1948 All-American Five). Also relocated the switch to the hot leg and installed a polarized plug. The radio works fairly well, but has a very tinny sound. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Be sure caps values are the same as original. Smaller caps will reduce low frequency response of a radio. Increase the value of cap between 1st audio amp and output audio tube.

Robert,

You may want to check the speaker and make sure the speaker cone moves freely in and out without rubbing or binding.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. The speaker does move freely. The caps are a close match to the originals. I doubled the cap from the 1st audio amp to the output audio tube and it seemed to help some. This radio may have other problems beyond my skills, it was incorrectly repaired in the past (by me, 33 years ago). I have recently renewed my interest in this hobby and still have much to learn. Thanks again.
