Pathe Model X Grammophone

Hello all,

I picked up a very interesting phonograph player this weekend. It is a gem. It is a Pathe Model X record player. To my surprise, it works! Nothing electrical, all mechanical and acoustic. And what I was wondering is how old is it and what year was it made? I am figuring about 1910 or so. The serial number is in the 51 thousands. Is there anything I need to know about it? I mean can it be over wound? What is that knob on the side do?

My guess would be to fine adjust the speed? How should I know, I wasn't around in 1910, despite what some people say.

The knob on the side pulls out and pushes back in but doesn't seem to do anything.

Most phonographs had a volume control, often on the side that slides in and out. On mine, this narrows the passage from the tone arm to the speaker and thus decreases the sound coming out. The control for the speed should be next to the turntable and is typically a small knob that turns. Mark from Kalamazoo
