Magnavox Model 245P
6/5/2007 7:14:08 PMBrian
I have a Magnavox 245P Style C101-239,Fm/Brdcst/Phono
3 speakers mounted in the back inside, it has a plug in the back that shows where a TV would plug in, this is a cabinet model, we have had it in the family for about 40 years. Anyone have any ideas about how old this model might be, or where I might get information on it ?

Thanks!

Brian, get the amp number and tuner number. These should help identify it more. Seems I have seen the 245P somewhere before.

Brian,

Magnavox had the craziest numbering systems where the model number tells you almost nothing. On the tuner chassis, you will see a CR-XXX number. This can be looked up on this site but there is a point where Riders ends and not all Magnavoxes were
in Sam's. Near the CR number, they usually dated them. I have a large Windsor with the big tweeter horn and four 6L6 tubes. My tuner chassis is dated 12-23-47 which means it was probably inspected on that date and sold probably within six months of that. If you have an amplifier on the floor of the cabinet, it will have an AMP-1XX number and a date close to the one on the tuner. Some of the chassis were used in different cabinet designs and layouts which is where all the other numbers come in.

Inside the phono compartment or on a front door will be metal tag with the logo and a name which was the cabinet style designated when it was sold.
