Grunow Tuning Eye tube

My 1930"s Grunow console has a tuning eye with a 6E5 tube that only moves slightly on strong stations, It has been recapped and has good reception, any idea what would be keeping the eye from being more sensitive to signal strength?

To close the eye of a 6E5 you need -8 volts on the AVC line. Has the radio been aligned? Do you have an antenna?

Measure AVC voltage on pin #3 of your 6E5.

Any chance someone used a 6U5 or 6G5 tube. These aren't as sensitive.

One more thing. There should be a 1 meg resistor between pin #2 and #4. If this resistor has gone way up in value you won't have much movement. Sometimes this resistor is built into the eye tube socket.

Norm: i will check the resistor in the socket, the tube is definitely a 6E5, the schematic calls for a 6G5, which was in it orignally but was very dim and I replaced it with the 6E5, which glows bright, but does not move much. Dave
