PILOT RADIO CORP. MODEL H-864
5/16/2007 1:24:01 AMJohan Teblanche
Hi

Can anybody please point me in the right direction to find the schematic/service info, or any other info for a Pilot Radio Corp (USA) model H-864 (circa 1939 or thereabouts)? (Not listed in Riders) I have searched dmyself into a frenzy and no luck! Would really like to restore it. I am in South Africa and that is where I found the radio as well. Please help?

Oh yes, further to this..the closest model Rider comes up with is H-874..Is this model related to the H-864 and if so how close? I am going to check tube numbers on the radio tonight to the H-874 numbers, maybe I'm lucky and the chassis are the same! :-) Also, where can I find a picture perhaps of the H-874 model to compare? Anybody's help will be appreciated greatly.

Thanks in advance.

Johan,

Hoi, Are you sure it says H-864? Maybe it would help if you took out the chassis and looked for another number that could possibly be a chassis number and that would help. So it helps others to help you to post the tube numbers because in all likelihood your model is in Rider volume 10 and it might have been built by some other company.

Hi Edward
Thanks for the answer, but yes, it is definitely a H864 (and another PRC sticker inside reads from the H860 series). In the mean time I have a found a picture of a very similar model the H380, now I am wondering if it's not the same model in disguise?

Please check it out? It seems finding service info on the PRC radios is going to be difficult indeed...unfortunately I need a schematic because the radio has somewhat been butchered, cap missing and speaker assembly missing. :-(

Although outerly the radios look the very much the same, I got the H380 cct and it does not match at all to the H864.
Anyway, still hoping theres someone out there that knows about the Pilot Radio Corp H864 (H860 series)and can help with some info. The tube list for the H864: 6Q7, 6K7, 6K9, 6V6GT and the power supply rectifier's number has unfortuantely rubbed off. It seems finding any schematic info on this radio is going to be the ultimate challenge. :-)

Are you sure about 6K9? I cannot find any information on that tube.

Sorry typo..its a 6K8
In the mean time I've found out that the H864 cct's should be the same except the H380 has an aditional 6K7 RF amp on the front end..will investigate..at this stage it's looking better, will have to replace the speaker and field coil with a PM speaker and a 10W 800ohm -1k resistor and audio o/p xformer, replace all electr. and paper caps and the missing cap(s) I will try and figure out from H380 cct. I'm getting there... :-)

Hi,
I recently sold a Pilot H-864 radio on ebay to a fellow in Pennsylvania. Awesome size with the flip dial. As I recall, one of the tubes is a ballast resistor. Wish I still had the radio or a picture of it to confirm whether it is the same. I had zero luck finding any details about it.
Cheers, Ian
