Philco Model 610???
8/18/1998 2:41:38 PMDave Smith
Can anybody provide more information about an old Philco radio I own? The cabinet looks like a cross between a rounded cathedral and a square tombstone. Three bands are selectable: Standard (55-170), Police(23-25), and Short Wave(6-18). Two glue stains on the back of the chassis indicate a couple of missing labels.
There are two stickers inside the cabinet.

The first one reads:
Part No. 10178A
Final Insp. #1(1?)
Run No. 9 14 12

The second one is a parts placement for the chassis that declares "Philco Model 610" and describes the position of the five tubes: 42, 75, 78, 6A-7, 80.

Is this a model 610 or a 10178A?
What year was it manufactured?
Any estimate on the number of units built?
Thank you for any information.

You have a Philco 610. This was a very popular radio made in 1936 and now lists for around $115.00. I do not know how many were made but others who collect Philco may give you an answer. Do not remove the finish, if possible, on this radio. The sides are made of plywood and if the finish is removed about all you can do is paint the radio brown.

Hello Dave,
Nostalgia Air has a schematic for your Philco 610, listed as Philco 41-610, code121. The 41 is the year. I like Philco's, it must be a nice set.
I hope this helps, happy listening, Don.

I believe the 610 being referred to here is the 1936 tombstone.

I also have a # 610 though I was told it is probably the #610B meaning it is a "tombstone". I'm going to try to bring her back to life after approx 35 yrs. of no use.

Hello,
Anyone out there in Radio Land:
I have a Philco Radio, model #76. It kind of looks like this one:

If you have any information about its age and if you have a copy of the schematic, could you please upload to my mail box? Thank you very much.
