I'm new to this forum. Are there Majestic 72s available either as entire units, or as electronics (without the cabinet) , or cabinets w/o the electronics?
Majestic Model 72 was sold with Chassis 70 or 70B. Unlike Atwater Kent they were sold in cabinets.
Are you looking for a Model 72 chassis pulled from a cabinet? Don't think Majestic sold chassis or cabinets separately.

I am thinking about getting one of these units. Things that (I know) I don't know:
1. The availability/cost of Model 72 cabinets w/o electronics.
2. The availability/cost of (working) Model 72 electronics w/o the cabinet. The Model 70/70B chassis, does this refer to the entirety of the electronics, or only to a power supply? What is the difference between the two.
3. The availability/cost of complete
(cabinet + electronics), working, units.
Any information that you have regarding these questions is greatly appreciated. There are probably some questions that I should be asking, as a new comer, that I haven't (regarding tube availability, for instance). If there are other risks/hazards in buying/owning these units please let me know what you think.

Majestic labeled both their chassis and cabinets with model numbers. I suppose the same chassis might have been used in different cabinets.
For sets with a separate power unit, the power unit should be marked with a model number, too. The schematics shown here under "Resources," will have the info. You'd have to study the schematics to tell the difference between the 70A and 70B versions of this chassis.
Most of the early AC-powered Majestic lowboys are listed in price guides with values of $100-200, but I expect that range is on the high side. Most are not highly sought after. All depends on condition, timing, and luck.

Thanks for all the interesing information. I'll have to pay attention to sales in the MidWest. You mention price guides. Can you suggest some. Also, are there books which list the various wood case radios and give technical details, info on the manufacturer, etc. I have a couple of these for modern communications receivers, but haven't seen any for old time radios like the Majestic.
Thanks,
Randy
:Randy, the availability and pricing of the various combinations isn't something that can be answered with any kind of certainty. If you keep your eye peeled long enough on eBay and at radio swap meets, you would eventially find almost anything.

Majestic used chassis in different cabinets. Usually they are sold together, chassis and cabinet. Look for a Majestic for sale in your area. Might find something for $50? Neither of us could afford to ship a Majestic across the country. They are large and very heavy (100 pounds?). Nice radios though.
Watch out for pot metal tuners that won't operate. You will also need to replace rubber coated wire. Takes time but not hard. Like most old radios caps will be leaky and should be replaced.

This is the kind of info that I was hoping to obtain in this forum. Per the comments of Doug Criner and you, I try looking for Majestics for sale in the MidWest.
Thanks again,
Randy
