Silvertone model 4790
7/13/2000 9:24:46 AMWilliam Southard
Purchased Silvertone model 4790 from friend who is moving
and didn't want anymore. Cabinet in excellent condition
but radio doesn't work. He had it checked several years
ago and was told the problem was the magnet in the speaker
I am new to this hobby and would appreciate any information
as to how to go about restoring the radio. The chasis I.D.

Hi William

It's best to get a schematic off nostalgiaair. If you don't find model 4790 check other ones around that number. Many of the Sears chassis use the same circuit.

If you were told the magnet is bad it may mean open field coil on the speaker. The field coil makes a magnetic field for your speaker. You can check this coil with an ohm meter. Resistance is usually less than 5000 ohms. Very high or no reading shows the coil is open.
