Philco Model 53-564

I'm looking for as much information as I can find on this radio. Most of the Philco collectors out there seem to concentrate on pre-WWII Models. This particular unit has a bakelite cabinet, "TV screen" shaped dial with two bone/burgundy knobs, and a "special services" band in addition to AM (presumably I can flip a switch in the back and listen to 50s era police, aircraft, and shipping transmissions!). My wife gave it to me for my birthday -- I can't imagine a funkier, more fun cabinet to restore.

However, is anyone out there confident that they're able to repair the "guts"?? I'm a novice at radio repair and I am a bit intimidated by the "special services" band. For goodness sake, if you can help, email me!!!

Thanks.

Hello Eric,
I'm in Australia and I'm not familiar with your particular model Philco. I checked Nostalgia Air schematics but can't find any information. However Philco made good radios and I think yours will be fairly straight forward
construction. The special services band could be an extra switched band but I suspect it's the AM broadcast band extended a little higher in frequency to about 1750 kHz or so to pick up the police band just above the broadcast stations. If I can be of any help in getting your set going I'm happy to help all I can though I can't get to work on it (6000 miles is a long service call, definitely NASA range).
Anyway, good luck, hopefully someone in the US will be familliar with your set and can help more. Don.
