steinite 40a

I did a cap job on a lovely late 20's steinite radio.
One question before turning on, what type of antenna is good for this era of radio? Any ideas on alignment?
I have a schematic, but no alignment info.
It has 2- #71a tubes (must be an early push pull?) and 5 #27 detectors.

Here's the schematic: http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByModel/532/M0040532.pdf

This is an AC-powered TRF. A 6-12' hank of wire would work for an antenna, at least for starters. Connect a ground wire, too.

There are four tuning caps. Are they all ganged together on one shaft? If so, and they look like they are fairly closely aligned with each other, don't disturb them. After you get the set running, you can decide whether you want to adjust the tuners for maximum volume.

It looked like there are trimmers on each tuner, but I think they must be compensators, in which don't touch them unless the set oscillates.

Best to bring it up on a variac or a dim-bulb tester and watch for problems.

By the way, there is typically no alignment for TRFs, except maybe to make sure the tuning caps are peaked alike. Otherwise, there's nothing to align.

Thanks Doug! Yeah I wasn't sure. I am used to 30's supers.
