Thanks
Here's the schematic for Model 605, a battery-powered radio: http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByModel/520/M0003520.pdf
And here's the schematic for the Model 608 Gembox (an AC-powered set): http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByModel/658/M0039658.pdf
After you make sure which schematic is correct, you should be able to identify your missing component.

:I am a novice collector of older radios and I have aquired what I believe to be Crosley 605 genbox. All tubes seem to be operational. However, there is a component missing. Facing the cabinet, the knob furthest to the left, of the 3 knobs, is missing. I think this may be a band selector but I am not sure as the component in the cabinet is not there. I have 2 questions. Can anyone tell me what may be missing and where I might be able to find it? Also, what is the approximate age of a radio like this? Any help would be very much appreciated.

:Thanks
That appears to have put me on track. Great information. FYI, the component that I am looking for looks to be a pot of some sort...I am gussing it is a fine tuning adjustment. Great info...thanks for the help.

:The Crosley "Gembox" is Model 608, not 605.

If your radio is a Crosley Gem Box (608), the knobs facing the front are left, regeneration control, middle, tuning and right, volume control. The regeneration control is a compression type variable capacitor mounted on and insulated from a metal frame with has a screw type shaft that extends out to the front of the radio. A knob mounts on the shaft and turning the shaft right or left will increase or decrease the capacity.

I believe the time frame for the Gem Box is 1927-1928. May have to procure a junker from someone somewhere. There may be someone else on here that has a junker he/she has parted out. The Gem Box I have had the antenna coil open (was easy to fix, bad solder connection at the terminals) and the choke coil in the plate of the detector also was open (same problem as the antenna coil).

:Thanks for the information. Do you khow where I could get a regeneration control and the associated knob?
