radio backing

Hi,

I new at restoration & radios in general. My RCA
61-8 is missing the protective back covering. I
have picture of it to make a new one but didn't
know what it was made of. Plastic, cardboard, or
thin wood? Anyone know what the late 40's backs
were made of? Thanks.

A new back can be made using "Artist's Board" ... It is a little heavier and thicker than art board and can be found at craft stores ... place the radio face up on the board and trace around it, then measure case thickness and make second inside line that you will cut on .. make holes for screws and you are all done

One last word!

Don't forget to cut ventilation holes in the board!!!!

Otherwise there's nowhere for the heat from the tubes to go and
you'll burn up the radio.

Would seem this would be a great aftermarket business for someone to start
