:Hello all,
:I'm working on an old Radio for a 1950 Chevy car, back when Chevrolet put their name on the radio. It is model 986240, which is the same as 986388 which was the actual model number from 1950. I need to find the proper vibrator for this and have many sources for them, but need cross references for the original part number (which is: 7239124) It is a 6V. negative ground system, which I'm sure is common. I know the polarity does not matter with the mechanical vibrator, which is what I want to find. Thanks for any help! Ron
Hi Ron,
Like Bill says, Mallory suggests 859 for a replacement. Mallory 1601 is also a good replacement. ATR replacement is 340, Radiart is 5300 or 5301 (one is shorter than the other). Many other 6 volt-4 pin vibrators will probably work okay, but I do not have a direct cross-reference for them. Could do a backwards cross (i.e. Mallory to James, Philco, Motorola, etc.), but that is sometimes not compatible.
By the way, 986388 is 50 Chevy (Gray dial background).
986240 is 49 Chevy (Brown dial background).

::Ronald, the 1953 Mallory Vibrator Guide indicates their P/N 859 is good replacement.
