Cap Question

Hi,

I'm recapping a Zenith 9S232 Shutterdial console. Cap C-4 (Zenith part #22-487C) has a wire mesh coming out of both ends instead of the usual solid wire. There are two of them in the set. I never saw one of these before, and I don't know the reason for the wire mesh. Is is safe to replace these with a standard .047/630v poly cap (no wire mesh, just wire)?

Thanks///Jeff S.

New caps with solid wire leads is Ok. Hate to speculate on the mesh feature.

Hi

As Richard suggested use standard modern caps. They must have thought using this stranded wire, like in a shield, was lower loss?

Who knows why they made them this way. Maybe because they are both grounded to the chassis and it was easier to solder a braid than a solid wire????

Thanks for the help!
