42-380 volume

I recently purchased a 42-380 that was complete including a mouse nest. I got the radio working after several cap and tube replacements. I also tweeked several adjustments to get the best results I could. The only problem is I must turn the volume all the way up for good sound and if the station is not strong the volume is to low. Is this normal for this radio or is there something I could do to amplify the sound more.Thanks.Gary

Gary, here is your schematic: http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByModel/533/M0013533.pdf

That radio should have plenty of volume. It has two 41 tubes in push-pull for the final audio. Something is amiss. Have you aligned the IF?

Very carefully, touch the grid of the XXL tube and see if the volume takes off. That would indicate that the problem is in the antenna ckt.
