I have a 10pf @500V mica I'll stuff in an envelope to you if you don't mind a cap with short leads removed from new surplus. Send me an email and let me know. Use mica cap for the subject.

:Hi all, need some advise here ,this one works great on AM but SW is dead, I have checked the band switch, and the coils associated with it even replaced the oscillator tube just for the heck of it also the papers have been replaced , still nothing there are clarified schematics and I have been checking componets only used by the sw band , while checking the micas I noticed if I jump c-17 (10pf) cap with a short piece of wire the SW booms to life??? is this telling me that the cap is bad? there is no indication on my VOM ,( no indication on any of the micas anyway) and I do not have another to replace it not even a .00001 uf... , (I hate these caps) is there a sure fire way to know for sure? or is this not the problem and need to look else where? any advise is apprecaited.
:Thanks

::Radiodoc,,Thanks for the offer, but I have ordered some caps from just radios , I need to have a few for situations like this, but I still don't know if the cap is bad or by placing this wire across it if I am just adding capacitance causing the band to spring to life?? because I can tune it by my hand moving next to the wire .

Doubt if the cap is bad but you can try this. Connect a small insulated wire where each lead connects. Twist the wires together for a few turns. This will make a small cap, maybe 10-20pf.

:Ok. One can never have too many caps on hand. You can probably try most any small value cap in the place of the 10 pf one for a test. Either parallel the original or just lift one end of the original and tack in the test cap. Good luck.
