Just took bach off a 30s set and see it is marked 25
cycle. Will these work or can they be modified for 60?

Yes it will work on 60hz, A 60hz set wounld not work on 25hz, power trans would over heat.

When I was working on airliners, we routinely used 60 Hz test equipment (with power transformers) on 115 V. 400 Hz. aircraft power. Cold here outside of Atlalnta, too. Down in the 50s (F)

Saw Atlanta was misspelled as I hit the enter key.
Sorry, Lewis L.

Didn't New York City keep an offbeat AC frequency a bit longer than the rest of the country, such as this?

The huge electric GG-1 locomotives running from NY to Washington since the 30's, ran on 25Hz at 11,000 volts, but they met their demise for the most part in the early 80's. They said the change to 60Hz was imminent and these old beasts would be obsolete. So they either destroyed or put the remaining few in museums.

The big paradox here, is that though in a few areas, the substations were re-wired, the main NY-DC segment to this day is still wired at 25Hz. 11,000 volts, as it was built as in the early thirties.
Sorry to be off-topic, but sometimes it's a sad thing to see some of this historic stuff to be ended so pre-maturely.

I always wondered why they used 25 Hz, and finally found that motors wound for DC could work on 25 but not 60 Hz. Rather than change all the motors of the whole electric fleet, they used 25 Hz and could run older DC locomotives as well as the AC models. But 11,000 Volts? Wouldn't want to work on that monster, no way, no how!

Very interesting hate to see this knowledge being lost.
