Philco model 95 push-pull input xformer
2/2/2007 10:49:38 PMBen Forrester
I am restoring a Philco model 95 and the audio push-pull input xformer has an open winding. The xformer (Schematic no 51 and Philco part no 3537) couples a 27 tube to 2- 45 tubes. Can anyone give me info regarding an acceptable replacement or info regarding the impedance of the primary and secondary center taped winding? Thanks for your help.

Ben: The 156 is correct. My westinghouse WR8 has the same tube arrangement. I had to replace the transformer due to open winding and used a PT-156. A few years later, Antique Electronic Supply offered a supposedly improved version (PT-157) which had a nickel core and was supposed to provided improved fidelity. I bought it and installed in my radio, but I can't honestly say I can hear any improvement. I see they don't offer the PT-157 anymore. Mark from Kalamazoo

Elton: Glad to hear that it wasn't just me that couldn't tell the difference with that transformer! As to the snow here, we haven't got a lot, but it gets worse the closer you get to Lake Michigan. But, it's so cold outside, there's no reason to go outside anyway. Mark from Kalamazoo

Many thanks for your help Elton. The Philco 95 is in excellent physical condition and the electronics are in good shape for the age.
