Grebe AC-6 Front Panel - Was it painted?
1/21/2007 2:49:13 PMW8VCK
Now that the power supply is slowly coming up on the variac it's time to work on the cabinet/front panel.

At first I thought the metal parts on the front were originally polished brass, like the Syncrhophase, but from the one picture I have found on the web it doesn't look like it, and when I got the metal trim that surrounds the dials off what I originally thought was badly tarnished brass now appears to painted.

I certainly don't want to ruin an original finish - does anyone know what would be "proper" for this radio?

Thanks!!

Alan

The Synchrophase escutcheons are antiqued brass, not polished. I don't own a 6 but I expect it's the same. The Sync 7 uses walnut veneer with lacquered brass inlay.

Thanks. I'm thinking the escutcheon is bare brass and the controls panel is laquered.
