RCA Victor 46X11 Plug-in Resistor

Hello again all! Another project to attempt again. This one was missing a tube when i got it (or so I thought), no tube layout label. Downloaded the schematics for this on Nost. Air, but cant read the pront, even with it blown up. Whay I thought was a missing tube is actually a plug-in resistor (ballast?). Anyone have a good copy to read from and find out the number for me? With my luck, it'll probably be a part nowhere to be found!

Thanks for any help anyone can give me!
Don.

Hi Don
Check out http://techpreservation.dyndns.org/schematics/ they have a better print of the schematic you need.

Thanks Mark, it is definately a better reading schematic. Guess I'm still in the dark though. Tried to google the part number on the schematics with no luck. Anyone else have any info on what part can be used in this socket? From the schematic, there are no specs on the value of the resistor, just a part number.
Thanks! Don

Don, from what I read it says 780 Ohms , but if you add up the tubes you already have 121 volts, from what I can see on the schematic this is a line dropping resistor for the dial bulb only ???

Don,
If you look @ the posting of the l49b ballast tube, I put a blurb on how to read the ballast numbers.

:Hi Don
I just looked at the schematic again, its a 790 Ohm resistor, however I don't know the wattage, my guess in looking at how it is used would be 2-5 watt resistor.

Hi Don,
One thing you need to do since tube is missing is look at socket connections and make sure someone hasn't jumped the pins according to the schematic with a resistor. A common thing which was done.

Well guys, now this newbie is totally stumped. The way this socket is wired doesnt match what's on the schematic, unless I'm missing something.
My digital cam isnt too good at close-up pics, so I'll try to describe what I have underneath. The pins on the bottom are all numbered from 1-8.

Starting with pin #1- wire lead goes to one side of dial lamp.
Pin #2- .05 @ 400 cap connected to pin #6- then to other side of dial lamp. Also, wire lead connected to 35Z5 socket.
Pin #3- one side of AC line cord
Pin #4- empty
Pin #5- empty
Pin #6 - see pin #2 (.05 @400 cap to pin #2, wire lead to dial lamp)
Pin #7- empty
Pin #8- one side of AC cord. Also, wire lead to switch on vol control.

On the schematics, it only looks like there are 3 pins being used? I have 5 being used? Everything underneath looks original. It's an RCA model 46X11.
Any help available, please?

Don,

You are right, pins 1, 2 & 3 are used. The other pins are used for tie points for other components. In other words, instead of the manufacturer going the cost of installing insulated terminal strips, he just used the unused pins on the socket to mount other components. In other radios, manufacturers have used unused pins on tube sockets (no internal connection inside the tube) to mount other components instead of using terminal strips.
