In case there was still any degree of uncertainity on the referencing....plus filling in for
Rob....here's the real thing.
There is the conventional tuning knob to the tuning condensers drum lash-up. Then there is the the separate stringing of that drum over to the like drum that drives the dial pointer.
With my degrees of refinement of technique, I now use a clear / milky teflon tube around the dual grooved center post. Then initially, use a loose length of dial cord... garotte style... to form two like, slight inward grooves in that tubing. The result is one minumal degree of cord friction and one resulting smooth, easy dial transverse.
Prior to that technique, I was using a coat of thick Z-5 silicone grease on the cord only for the
distance that it moved past that post. The silicone not being affected by sag from tube heat .
And,since that dial string up was separate from the main basic dial drive, no cross contamination
ever ocurred.
That set is the grand daddy of a series of later units that were first class DX performers..having a
RF stage as well as dual IF's in its design, that larger center speaker, also giving a good sound to it.
