I have worked on off and on for quite awhile. I finally found a major problem and now I have beautiful reception but it only tunes 640 (my favorite station and nearest station)across the dial but gets best reception when it is nearer the actual 640 dial scale indicator. I think there is an alignment problem here but I am not sure how to adjust it. I only have limited tools. I have an EICO
325 signal generator but I do not know if it is in good working order. I cleaned it up and changed all the caps in the generator shortly after I acquired it but have not tried using it yet. The Bendix 326 has had all the caps replaced. And the tubes check good. Where can I go from here to get this working properly and into its beautiful Catalin cabinet? Bob
The oscillator may not be working and the oscillator tube is acting like a regular RF amplifier on the one strong local station. May try placing another AM radio close to the Bendix and tune it and see if you can pick up its oscillator. The signal from the Bendix if it is operating should be above the tuned signal plus the IF frequency.

:Hi Bob
: Sounds to me like the oscillator is out of adjustment, I would try adjusting the oscillator trimmer to start with, and then do a complete alignment of the set.

To make a long response longer....read on :O)
Thanks for that advice but I think its probably all
my doing. I have messed with this set quite a few times and backed away from it and moved on coming back occcasionally trying to figure out what the problem was. I do not put it beyond myself to have literally screwed it up. But....since I did not get much of a response from my plea I continued to play around with the tuning screws and eventually I was able to get get more stations due to blind luck.
What I need is to find someone who can take my EICO 324 signal generator and make sure it is in good operating condition and then teach myself (with the help of the forum hopefully how to tune radios which would benefit me greatly.
I just need to know that the equipment I am using is in good working order. I am a rank amateur at this but I am continually reading, researching, and basically trying to undersatand what the hell radio is :O) I did not understand what I was doing in 1969 when I was in Aviation Electronics Fundamentals but I am now trying to. The only experience I had in the Navy with electronics was the basic schooling and then I was able to get into what I really wanted to do. Well things have reversed somewhat and now I am tinkering with these radios. I just think the styling and the cabinet work on these old sets are so cool. I love old radio shows and I work directly under an AM Public Radio Station here in Ames, Iowa where they put out some of the best entertainment around. AM ROCKS :o)

You may check in your area and see if there is an Antique Radio Club. Generally there are persons in the clubs who can help you with radio theory and repair of old radios. May even be one close enough you wouldn't have to use any frequent flyer miles.
