battery eliminator

Hello:
I recently picked up a Sentinal chair side model 80B.When I opened it to remove the chassis there was a small A B C battery eliminator. There is a schematic attached to the case but it does not give any values for the various components. The battery eliminator is a GTC model L made by the General Transformer Corp. The old radio was found in an old farm house,in the attic and had been there for many years. I replaced all the caps and the resisters in the voltage divider. The capacitor values are-two 20 mfd 250 volt-two 1500 mfd 4 1/2 volt-one 10 mfd 25 volt. The unit has one tube a 5W4.It also has one small selenium? rectifier. When I checked the B+ they all are approximately double. The A and C voltages seem ok. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dan, What is the ac voltage from the xfmr to the rectifier?

When you measured the B+, is there any chance your meter was on the AC scale?

:Hello: Thanks David and Z for your fast reply. Several of the capacitors I replaced were new to me I replaced two 1500 mfd 4 1/2volt ,one 1000 mfd 3 volt. I used some old caps I had removed from a throw away Zenith tv. One failed and two were leaking.I will have to order replacements I looked at Just Radios and A E S and I didn't see them listed Will call A E S or radio daze Monday. From memory I had over 700 volts plate to plate on the 5W4. I didn't try connecting a load-will replace with proper capacitors and try again with a load. I have my model 80 B Sentinel connected to my Arbe 111 and it works very well. Thanks again

Contact Dave from JustRadios (email), he will suggest the proper values. You do not have to replace with _exact_ values. There is a good safe margin to work with when replacing caps.

Did you test the B+ with a load ? A resistor divider will not provide correct voltage unless there is a load. Try using a 1Kohms 2-5 Watts resistor as a load to the 135V section to provide around 15ma load. Then take voltage readings again.
