FM TUNER

HELLO:
MY FM TUNER IS SOUNDS LOUD AND CLEAR AT FIRST, AND THEN THE SOUND GOES ON AND OFF. THEN TO A LOW VOLUME AND STAYS THAT WAY. SO I TOOK IT TO A PLACE WHERE THEY FIX OLD RADIOS AND HE TESTED IT AND SAID IT WAS WORKING WELL. SO I ASSUME THAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE AM RADIO. SINCE I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VOLUME ALWAYS BEING LOUD. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE FM TUNER IT DIDN'T DO THIS AND NOW SUDDENLY IT'S ACTING UP.

Hi Allen,
Here is my best guess, a bad connection in a tube socket or switch. If there is a switch switch it back and forth a few times, see if it clears up. To check for a problem in a tube socket, you can try pulling each tube and replacing it.
I had a problem similar with my 1948 AM/FM. When I pulled the 6T8, it left a pin behind in the socket. That sure give it away.

Best Regards,

Bill Grimm
