Please help ID this coax RF connector
12/28/2006 2:21:19 AMPeter G. Balazsy
Hi Guys,
I have this screw-on RF coax connector on the RF out-put of my Heatkit signal generator. I want to find an adaptor for it so I can TEE off over to my digital freq counter.
But I cannot ID this type of connector.

(sorry for blurry image couldn't get close enough)
Can you help?

I found it.... lol ... (I looked in the connector.. name written on it... duh)
It's a microphone cable connector made by Switchcraft.

Now I just need to find an adaptor from this thing to BNC so I can TEE into my freq counter.

:Hi Peter
From what you describe I would think you need an RF to BNC "T" connector.

:Hi Peter
Radio Shack has a RF to BNC and BNC "T" adapters, in combination I think they will do the job for you.

Peter, what I've done is replace the mic connector on the test equipment panel with a BNC connector. They both take the same size mounting hole. Then I hang the original mic connector somewhere inside the test equipment in case somebody in the future wishes to restore it to original.

Doug:
That's EXACTLY (sort-of what) I finally did too.

I drilled a new hole near the old RF connector and installed a BNC connector.
The old "RF out" is fed via a .01 cap and so I paralleled another .01 cap from the same source point to the new BNC.

So I can use either or both.
Both is my intention, so that I can see the freq on the freq counter via the BNC and connect the old RF output coax to the radio to align IFs or whatever.

Now I only paid $30 on Ebay for this very nice (well built) Heathkit 1G-102 signal generator... but I wonder if there are any newer style ones out there for about the same price that have built-in digital readouts?

Peter,
Heath may have used it as an RF connector, but looks more like an audio/microphone style to me, and as such, direct adaptation to an RF style (BNC) may not be available. During my many EE years, don't recall having seen many of these, nor any adapters.
