Reception and AC Question
12/10/2006 8:02:18 AMMike M
Peter's post about the GFI reminded me about something that happens in my garage which is my summer workshop for radios. If I have a radio test playing and plug in an extension cord, with nothing connected to it, to another outlet the volume drops on the radio. Unplug the extension and it comes back.
The AC wiring is done up to code.

Any ideas?

This may sound really nutty, but I had a situation something like that once. A weak station, just a the edge of AVC action. A grounded extention cord "shorts" some RF to ground, through the house wiring. Ergo, a drop in AF level due to not enough RF to work the AVC. Put a high resistance meter on the AVC bus and check the Voltage there.
