Hi Jim

Chelsea made radios in the 1920's. I found some models listed but not ZR-4. Only one mention of Chelsea in Alan Douglas's, Radio Manufacturers of the 1920's

Greg Hunolt, located in Wisconsin (Plymouth?) has put together a compendium of battery powered radios of the 1920s. Each listing tells where he got the info. The listing is on an Excel spreadsheet. If you want a copy, best to contact him directly and ask him to email you a copy, since I have a dial-up internet connection: ghunolt@excel.net

He lists about 2 dozen TRF and regen Chelsea models, but none identified as a ZR-4. (There is a ZR-30, and several others do not have a model number listed.) You might be able to match yours up to his list based on number of knobs, type of cabinet, tube types, etc.

Jim,
I repaired one a while back, and had the same questions. Never did locate a schematic, but it's the same as all the other mid 20's sets. Alan D. told me he thought the set may have been made by Chelsea for sale through Gimble's Dept. stores. Apparently Chelsea made other Transcontinentals for them (with lower model numbers), so maybe the ZR-4 was the last of the series.

If you know of anyone who might be interested, I have one in Rochester, NY. It was in with my Mother's stuff, and I would like to sell it.
