Look at the top chassis view. See the front can with a lead going to the grid cap of the IF amplifier tube? That will be L15-1, 1st IF xfmr.
The second can back from the front is undoubtedly going to the grid of the 2nd dectector (which doesn't have a grid cap). That can will be L15-2, the 2nd IF xfmr.
The rear-most can is going to the grid cap of the RF stage. This will be the RF tuning coils.
Go through my logic I used to identify these components.
Now, as to the two unidentified components on the bottom of the chassis, there is no view shown for us to look at. You need to see what they are connected to, and figure out what they are by matching them up with the schematic. I'd recommend that you postpone any restoration work until you can read the schematic and match it up with each of the components. Otherwise, how can you really be sure that somebody in the past has miswired the set?
But based on your description of the two square, tar-filled, unidentified components, I would guess they are caps. But don't guess - trace out the schematic.
:I need some help identifying some of the old components. Someone miswired it long go, and I can't tell what the schematic labels are in the three large cans in-line with the tuner dial. Basically, I am trying to figure out how they are numbered, 1 in front and 3 in the back or vice versa. If anyone has a real clean readable copy of the Sparton maodel 15 schematic page 2-8, I could use some helps with component ids. Also, I don't recognize two square metal cans screwed to the bottom of the chassis on the right side. They are filled with a tar like substance, and look like capcitors, but I really dont think thats what they are. I feel if I can get a few good hints, I can fix this one.

I don't know if you will see this or not, but your help was invaluable in terms of fixing this radio. I finally got it working afer giving up several times before. The previous owner had messed up a few things (probably because the there are some "UNIQUE things) in how the schematic identifies the grides on the power tube, in my mind they are mislabled, but being a nubie I can't swear to that. IT WORKS and I thank you very much for the shovein the right direction.
