Philco Model 20 Tuning Condenser

Looking for some suggestions:

I’ve completely disassembled and cleaned the tuning condenser from this Model 20. After re-assembly, I noticed the rotor did not turn true in that it would wobble at a certain point in the rotation. This made me think the shaft was bent. Further investigation revealed that at the point where the shaft rests in the front “cradle” is no longer round. It is oval with a flat spot, most likely the result of many years of use. The metal to metal contact at this point has worn the rotor shaft. I was considering an elaborate repair, which I won’t get into here. I’m really looking for a quick fix.

It will probably be ok the way it is, but being a hopeless perfectionist I doubt that I will be able to ignore it.

I also rebuilt the filter condenser. What a messy job that was!

How about sliding a nice big flat washer (slightly loose) a few thousandths over... slip it over the shaft and adhering that washer to the chassis where the metalis oval?

Peter,
Thank you for the suggestion. I used a slightly modified version. It worked very nicely and was a lot easier than what I was thinking of doing.

Thanks,
Gary
