3rd wire (SW) in power cord

Whats the deal with a 3rd wire in the power cord for a SW antenna used on 1940 zenith consoles? It does not look like it connects to the a/c plug. Do I need to get 3 conductor wire to make this original?

Hi James

Some radios use the third wire for an antenna. In this case it doesn't connect at the AC plug.

I have the same situation on my 7-s. What do most people do for this short wave wire when they are restoring their radio. I also have a bunch of loose wires in the bottom of my console in addtion to my wavemagnet that Iam not sure what they are for.

www.sundialwire.com sells some very attractive three wire cloth covered cord, in case you're looking for something more attractive than three wire plastic extension cord.

If you use a regular two plug ac cord and you want to receive SW you'll need to hook up about ten feet of insulated wire to the same place that third wire for antenna goes to...somewhere on the band switch? Don't hook it to the ac line. Loose wires, maybe someone made a homemade antenna. Work the schematic and it clean up.
