Atwater Kent identity?
11/8/2006 1:35:11 PMIvan H Copas
A friend bought a cabinet at a flea market. A brass tag inside is marked: Atewater Kent Radio. There are no working parts. No numbers. I looked on the Atwater Kent web site and didn't find a picture of a similar unit.
The cabinet is a floor model. A square box with Queen Ann legs. There is a flip up top quite as if there once was a record player there. The lower front is a wood panel with a center round hole about 14" diameter. The back has a round hole 2" in diameter directly in back of the front opening.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Best regards,
Ivan Copas

Hi Ivan

Furniture manufacturers such as Pooley and Red Lion made console cabinets for Atwater Kent radios. Sometimes different AK models fit into the same cabinet.

:Hi, The cabinet I am trying to describe is a rather large floor model. The AK 33 is a small table model battery powered unit. This cabinet is large enough to have contained a record player and a TV. Am I correct in thinking that AK never sold such?
Thanks for your response.
Ivan

AK like many radio manufacturers put the same chassis in various cabinets, both table top and floor consoles. Marketing to the widest customer base. I have three Atwater Kent model 55's, all in different cabinet types.

:::::Hi. I took another look at the cabinet and on the tag it says, 'The Pooley Furniture Co.'
Now, What the heck fit into that big 'round hole in the front?
