Tuning static
11/4/2006 11:23:08 AMJon
Just finished a Crosley model 52TH and get very pronounced static only when tuning. I have cleaned the tuning condensor repeatedly without any luck. It does not seem to ground out as I do not loose the signal.Anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks,

Jon,

I am not sure I can really describe or explain but between the tuning cap sections there is a spring contact that makes with the stationary portion of the cap and the movable shaft. This may not be corroded/tarnished and not be grounding properly causing noise/static when tuning.

That was it! I have never run across this before. I carefully ran the blade of an Exacto knife between the spring clip and the condensor frame on both sides then rinsed with Deoxit and blew out with air. Works perfectly without any static.
Many thanks!
