NOS?

Hi,
I received some tubes from what i thought was a reputable internet vendor.

The tubes were supposed to be NOS. As far as I know, that's supposed to mean "New Old Stock". In other words, the tubes could be old as the the hills, but they were never put in service. Used is used and NOS is NOS. The terms are NOT synonomous!

What I got in the order was reboxed old tubes with crusted dust, some of the metal tubes had been spray painted black. Two of the tubes appear to be dead. Of the 16 tubes, I think three might have actually been NOS in the original manufacturer cartons.
I can't believe they charged me $14 for a "NOS" tubular 80 that also turned out to be used.

Is this the norm, or did I get hosed?

I have seen this a few times lately, I dont think people understand what "NOS" means. I bought a pair of 45 tubes from an online reputable vendor and I test everything as soon as it arrives, they both tested very poorly. They looked used to me but he insisted they were new and because he had given me such a good deal there was no returning them. His response to me was "just because they are NOS does not mean they are any good"
I guess now more than ever, "buyer beware!"

What a shaft! However, it's very true NOS tubes may be bad but not as a rule. And why wouldn't seller test if selling in small quanity. If you are buying one or two don't buy unless the seller test and gives a guarantee. I believe you can do much better on ebay; tubes go pretty cheap. There are some deals. Buy from established sellers who test NOS tubes and offer replacement or money back. Actually, used tubes which are tested and guaranteed aren't bad deal either.

Hi Jimm,How about telling us who this supposedly reputable dealer was so we all can be aware of them? The last outfit that I bought a couple of tubes from pulled the same thing on me(both were dead). When confronted, the person refused to give me my money back or even exchange them.If I could remember what outfit this was,I would gladly put their name up here and let everone know. You can't be sued for telling the truth about somebody or your experiences with them.

Funny you should mention the "liebel" aspect of this!
It's true, and unfortunate that many unscrupulous business people hide behind legal threats. I've been threatened by a few of those in my time! As you say, nothing can come of the threat if the statement is true!

None the less, I have not given them an opportunity to make it right yet, but IMHO, this seems more like "policy" than a mistake. A mistake might be one piece. This is several. Time will tell...

All I'll say now is that they have a very attractive website and they're located in Arizona.

Hi Jimm

Give them a call and explain the problem. Someone pulling the tubes may have made a mistake? This company will give you credit or accept a return if you aren't satisfied. You shouldn't be satisfied.
