Philco 41-380 console
10/1/2006 12:21:42 PMAaron
Just picked up this radio from the side of the road.

It's missing the dial glass, and the plate behind it is rusted, but the radio appears otherwise complete.

I can't find any documentation on it here. Anyone have pictures of a complete radio, or a schematic?

Could not find this model number either. Posting tube lineup would help and verify that a digit was not misread. Easy to do.

Hi

Try 42-380:

http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByModel/533/M0013533.pdf

Philco sometimes made the same model two years. The first number is year. 41 being 1941, 42 is 1942.

Aaron/Norm,
I have a 42-1008 Philco console. They must have been fond of using 8's in their model numbers.

Ok, had a better look at it with a bright light. Looks like it says Model 41-300 Code 121. Tubes are:

42 x2
37 x3
7C6
7A6 (not actually on this chassis?)
80
7B7 x2
XXL x2 (that's a new one for me)

Speaker is a FC type, 36 1515 2 is printed on the back of the FC.

Found the schematic here, but not very clear. I'll probably order a paper copy.

Haven't tried plugging it in yet, the cord is bare and I want to check/replace caps first.

What are the odds of finding parts for the dial? Were the station numbers printed on the back of the glass, or the metal behind it? I can't tell if there was ever any writing on the metal. At least the rest looks pretty good, including the veneer. I may be able to salvage the original finish even.

:Check out 'www.radioatticarchives.com'. They have photos of thousands of radios. There are two pictures of a Philco 41-300. One of them shows the dial glass. Also if you don't mind a reproduction RadioDaze sells a glass dial scale for your radio. The part no. is 27-5658 and it runs 35.95. Good luck.

Thanks for the link, that's a cool site.

Looks like mine is missing the wood cover over the controls as well, but after seeing those pictures I think this one will be worth a restoration. I like the smooth look of the cabinet.

Nevermind about the cover... I just went and took another look at my radio, and the cabinet is different than what is in those pictures. There is no flip down cover, and there is grille cloth visible behind the bars in front of the speaker. The bars are also farther apart and shaped differently. Did they have more than one cabinet style for this model?
