RE: OSC Coil?
9/21/2006 7:34:38 PMMark
HI all!
Well, I'm in desperate need of a good oscillator coil for a Westinghouse Model H374-T5, would anyone have one or know of where I could get one?

Mark, can you point us to a schematic for this radio?

Is the original coil open? If so, check if perhaps a lead is broken or disconnected.

AES www.tubesandmore.com carries a replacement osc coil. Need to coordinate the coil henries and tuning cap uuF so that you can get the coil/cap to resonate at the incoming RF freq + offset = IF freq.

Hi Mark

As Doug mentioned AES has oscillator coils. They sell an universal one with adjustable core to change inductance.

Here is the schematic of Westinghouse H374-T5:

Yes the coil is open, at some point someone has gotten in there and the coil was destroyed, yes Norm thats where I got the schematic for this model, I will check with tubes and more, thanks for the ifo:)

Hi Mark

I am sure you noticed this coil has three windings. Only two have both ends. The thrid winding is open ended and used as a capacitor. Some radio use 50 pf in place of this winding.

Hi Norm
yes, one of the leads on this coil is grounded, the thing is, in looking at the coil form it has 4 leads on it, so which coil should I order from AES?

Hi Mark

Universal Oscillator will work. Not sure if it has the extra winding? If not just add a 50 pf cap. Check other schematics and you will see what I mean.

Hi Norm
There are 2 different OSC coils at AES, one appears to be adjustable P-C70 and the other P-C77 which appears to be non adjustable. both have 4 lugs as the original one has 4 terminals, so which one of these two would you recommend?
Mark
9/22/2006 1:03:33 PMNorm Leal
Hi Mark

I would use P-C70-OSC. Costs more but notice it says Universal. This one has a core in the center to change inductance. Notice around PC77 there are different inductances. It's necessary to match inductance for tracking.

The coil probably won't have that third, open ended, winding. Use a 50 pf cap for that. Check other radio schematics to understand how they are wired.

HI Norm
OK, I was kind of leaning towards that one as well, since it is adjustable, but wanted to confirm with you before I purchased one of them, I will look at some other schematics as far as the open ended winding is concerned, thanks again:)
