Difficulty finding tubes
9/6/2006 8:27:48 PMAndy Rolfe
Hi Guys; I'm reading all of your postings and the information is just great!!!
I 'm having a problem finding these tubes listed anywhere(specs, suppliers, etc.)Nothing even on E-bay!!
The tubes are for a (Canadian made??) 1938 Rogers Majestic, Model 13/85 console radio. The tubes are a 75M,a 41M,a 2X3,and a 6X6 which is a tuning indicator. I've checked various online tube suppliers and cannot even find them listed. One wouldn't think these tubes would be that difficult to find. Would appreciate any help you could give me.

Hi Andy

Since these tubes are Canadian they weren't used in the US. A Canadian collector may know where to get the tubes. I will forawrd your post to ED in Canada.

Thought 75M might be a US 75 but it's not. 75M is octal and also called 6B6M which wasn't used in the US either.

:Thanks Don, That helped me find substitutes for the Type M tubes. I'll have to keep searching for the 2X2 and the 6X6 info. Also thanks Norm for your information.

Hi, These tubes are usually hard to find. Sometimes collectors may have some to spare. Rogers used many odd tubes, the "M" ones have a spray shield on them and may be octal versions of common 7 pin tubes using the octal pin 1 for the shield.

Rogers and others have replacement charts. Use 6Q7G or 6B6G for the 75M. Use 6K6G for the 41M. The 2X3 is a half wave rectifier, normal change is to use an octal socket with a 5U4G or 5Y3G and the appropriate wiring changes. The 6X6 is very rare, Rogers suggested a 6U5/6G5 with an adapter. I guess one could also adapt more common eye tubes.

Hi Andy,
About a year ago I saw a 6X6 on eBay. I remember it because it looked so strange.
The radio should play without it. As a last resort you could post a favorite search on eBay and you will get an email when a 6X6 turns up. You may wind up as the only bidder, too. Rare tubes are rarely needed.

All the Best,

Bill
