Variable voltage transformer or variac

I recently purchased a variable voltage transformer. 120vac in and 0-120vac out. It is a big copper coil in a very heavy box. Got a big knob on the front that you turn to set the output voltage.

Is this thing also good as an isolation transformer, or do I also need to track down something else for that use?

Hi

Most are auto-transformers. Single winding with no isolation. Useful for bringing up voltage slowly but still need an isolation transformer for safety.
