I just finished recapping and replacing weak tubes on this beautiful console. My volume seems to be weaker that it should be on strong signal stations, I have the cardbord antenna box attached, how critical is the grounding on these radios? Any sugggestions would be appreciated.

Make sure that you check the trimmers with a signal generator. I don't see such a switch in the schematic, but if your wavemagnet has a local/distant switch, make sure that it's on "distant."
