You can use a RCA 100 or Atwater Kent E series speaker. If you don't have that a modern PM speaker with output transformer will work.
Radio was made to be used with a long wire antenna. If you use a tuned loop need to make changes.

:Thanks for all the great help. One more question. I don't have the original speaker and can't seem to find one. Can I use an old RCA or Atwater Kent speaker as a suitable substitute without any problem. Also, I plan to use a loop antenna kit for the final hook-up. Anymore words of advise? Thanks again for all the help.

A ground wire would help.
::Thanks Norm,
:I can use the long wire. I just don't have a good source for the insulators and the lightning arrestor required for the long wire. Do you know a source on these?
