Thanks for all the great help. One more question. I don't have the original speaker and can't seem to find one. Can I use an old RCA or Atwater Kent speaker as a suitable substitute without any problem. Also, I plan to use a loop antenna kit for the final hook-up. Anymore words of advise? Thanks again for all the help.

Steve

You can use a RCA 100 or Atwater Kent E series speaker. If you don't have that a modern PM speaker with output transformer will work.

Radio was made to be used with a long wire antenna. If you use a tuned loop need to make changes.

:Thanks Norm,
I can use the long wire. I just don't have a good source for the insulators and the lightning arrestor required for the long wire. Do you know a source on these?

Steve, "long wire" doesn't necessarily mean an outdoor installation with insulators, etc. If you have reasonably close broadcast stations in your area, you can drape about 12', or so, of wire around the room -- that should be plenty good to check out your set.

A ground wire would help.
