Replace a 01A with a transistor circuit
4/26/2000 3:50:47 AMManuel Garnelo
I have some very nice dud tubes and I would like to retube a TRF with these 01As, but at the same time I want the radio to work! I think it would be easy to sneak under the chassis a few transistor circuits camouflaged inside tiny wax blocks, just to make the work of each lazy tube (they won´t be seen anyway).
I imagine I am not the first guy having the idea of replacing a tube for its transistor equivalent circuit, so before start designing myself I would like to see what has been done.
I couldn’t find any information so far. Anyone can help?

Hi Manuel

As a last resort you could use transistors. There are other tubes that also work, 112A, 30 (if you have standard 4 pin sockets).

A company sells transistorized wafers that can be inserted under each tube. For information call 501 568-1995.

Hi Manual, there are just what you need available in the US. They consist of a thin disk that is slipped over the dud tube pins. The disk contains a FET amplifier that substitutes for the tube function. I don't have the name of the company that supplies these but hopefully someone else will reply with their name os you can search through the services listing here or at Antique radio forum, I think they will be listed there.
Good Luck, Don Black.

I have emailed a copy of a published set of instructions using FET's to do this. Personally I would prefer to use substitute tubes when possible for general use and save the 01A's for show time.
