Substituting type 30 for 01a tube

I have been using type 30 tubes to replace 01a's using 2v on the filament as recommended. Will the type 30 work as a grid leak detector as well?

Bill: Probably, give it a try. Won't hurt.

But why are you using 30s to replace '01As? Cheaper?

Hi Bill

Here is something I wrote up a long time ago:

Except for filament voltage both tubes are similar. The 30 will work as a grid leak detector.
