CGE Model C-103 problem
6/24/2006 10:19:26 AMAndy Rolfe
I have a problem with no sound on this radio. While poking around the bottom of the 35z5gt tube, the rectifier tube, looking for loose or disconnected wiring I accidently touched pin 5 and pin 6 with a screwdriver and suddenly the station came in clear and loud !! The line cord is soldered to pin 6 which is a spare pin and there is a short piece of wire connecting pin 6 to pin 2. Why would the line cord not be connected directly to pin 2 instead of from pin 6 to pin 2 ?? Also if I touch pin 2 to pin 5 with a screwdiver the station comes in loud and clear. So I'm stuck as to understanding what is happening and how to fix this problem. (there is a 15 ohm resistor between pin 2 and pin 5 if this has something to do with the problem)

Hi Andy

The 15 ohm resistor is open.

Pin #6 is being used as a tie point. Maybe there were too many components to tie everything to pin #2? Might also check continuity of your 35Z5 filament. Pins #2, #3 and #7 should show continuity. Sometimes a section opens and someone might have put a jumper across the open?

Norm; You were absolutely right, The resistor was open. I replaced it with a 10 ohm resistor and everything is working perfectly. Thanks a million for taking your valuable time to help a newcomer
