Arvin 444A

My Arvin just hummed so I replaced the filters and now no more hum but it only gets two or three stations at the higher end and nothing midway or below. What could cause this? The tubes check OK.

Check the tuning capacitor. See if you bent the plates. They may be shorting at the lower frequency end. See if you broke a wire loose in the RF/Osc section of the radio. General rule #1: If it was working before I fixed it, what was the last thing I did to it. Happy hunting.

Hi John

It could be plates touching as Mark mentioned but be sure to use an antenna. This is a 4 tube radio and does require a wire antenna for good reception.

I have a 12' antenna on it and the plates don't seem to be touching in the tuning cap. Sometimes the radio goes completely dead across the band--you get nothing at all.
